All though Unbroken was a bit of a disappointment, the actors were none short of amazing. Especially Jack O'Connell as the inspirational Louis Zamperini. I have to say I hadn't heard of him until the release of the trailer back in the summer. (Many of you may remember him from the hit UK series SKINS as James Cook). Not to sound too cliche but I knew from the start of the trailer that a star had truly emerged. Jack O'Connell is an incredible actor who's portrayal of Zamperini is nothing short of incredible. He was able to show emotion through every bone in his body and every muscle in his face and lets not forget his perfect american accent. If Unbroken had been written better and focused on Louis as a person more than the torture he endured, I would say that, that performance would of nabbed O'Connell a Golden Globe nominee.
If Unbroken did anything it was two things. Make me want to read Unbroken and watch every project, past and present that O'Connell is associated with (except skins).
As of today he was up for a BAFTA Rising Star award along side fellow nominees, Miles Teller, Gugu Mbatha- Raw, Shailene Woodly, and Margret Robbie. Obviously I voted for Jack but I have to say that his toughest contender may be Woodley or Miles.
2015 looks like and amazing year for O'Connell, having three films set to release one of which is titles Tulip Fever, a 17th century love story. The cast for Tulip Fever actually makes me burst with happiness. It stars actors like Christopher Waltz ( enough said), Dane Dehaan (the one i'm most excited about), super-model turned actress, singer Cara Delevingne (is there anything she can't do?) and finally Zack Galafianakis (the fucking cherry on top of this awesome cast). The other two films Money Monster, where he will be acting along side Julia Roberts and George Clooney (wow, honestly that just amazing) The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, both seem like promising films.
