Back in November news broke that Stephen King's The Stand, the 3 part post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel would be coming to the big screen.
An earlier rendition of the film had been made back in 1994 as a six hour miniseries. Since then Warner Brothers has been trying to bring the novel to the big screen. At one point even Ben Affleck was set to direct the feature. Which is now set to be directed by the Fault In Our Stars Director Josh Boone. Boone is a huge Stephen King fan and sounds ecstatic to be working on the film.
And I'm excited too. In an interview with Hollywood Babble-On Podcast ( thanks Slashnews) Boone talks about how he wants to do the project at the highest level possible including wanting an a-list cast for this film. Since then rumors have been flying of Matthew McConaughey playing villain Randall Flagg. But what's even more exciting is that they already have A-listers involved with the project and that the films budget is $87 million, that’s pretty good right?
The last bit of news I've learned about this project is that will be made into four movies instead of just one. Which I find to be way better. There is a lot going on in this story and it would be a huge benefit financially and quality wise.
I'm excited for this movie. The story has a lot of meat to it and if it's done well, it definitely could have some success during that years' award season. The characters are rich and the story is original and interesting I believe in the right hands that we could see this film becoming highly acclaimed.
My assignment for the following months is to watch the film and read the book. So I can have a better take as casting news are released, which could be very soon.
